General The Newborn Apnea Clinic encompasses an interdisciplinary follow-up of newborn babies who need home-care cardiorespiratory monitoring. After consulting the CHU Sainte-Justine Pneumology Department, the need for home-care monitoring is established and agreed upon by the attending physician and the family. A qualified nurse will teach the parents how to use a cardiorespiratory monitor and how to proceed in case of an alarm. This training includes a cardiopulmonary resuscitation course for the child.
The CHU Sainte-Justine home-care nurse follows up with the family at home through regular telephone calls. Medical follow-up is ensured by a Pneumologist, who reviews at events at home with the family, as well as the results recorded by the monitor. When appropriate, the family and the physician agree upon removing the monitor.
A pilot project on virtual home followups through the use of a portable computer, and on the “Suivi Clinique Intelligent à Domicile” program is currently being employed to conduct medical followups with certain children.
